17.8.2026 Norelco Opens New Electrical Design and Software Development Unit in Jyväskylä to Support Growth
Norelco is opening a new electrical design and software development unit in Jyväskylä in August. The new unit is a significant part of the company's growth strategy and will strengthen Norelco’s expertise in electrical design, software development and artificial intelligence. At the same time, it supports the company’s goal of providing customers with increasingly comprehensive end-to-end solutions in the rapidly growing electrification market.
The Jyväskylä unit will provide electrical and schematic design services for customer projects while also developing software solutions and AI-powered applications. The unit will work closely with Norelco’s production facilities in Savonlinna, Kuopio and Kirkkonummi, supporting customer projects from the design phase through commissioning and lifecycle services.
“Establishing a presence in Jyväskylä is a strategic investment for us. We want to strengthen our electrical design and software capabilities while building an even stronger expert organisation to support our customers’ evolving needs. At the same time, we will be able to serve customers more flexibly and efficiently across Finland,” says Ari Hämäläinen, CEO of Norelco Group.
According to Wayna Moncada, Business Director, customer expectations have changed rapidly as society becomes increasingly electrified.
“Today, customers are looking for a partner that can provide solutions covering the entire value chain, from electrical design and manufacturing to maintenance and lifecycle services. By integrating design work closely with our own manufacturing operations, we can develop solutions faster, improve quality and shorten project lead times. This translates into more efficient project delivery and a better overall service experience for our customers,” Moncada explains.
Jyväskylä was selected largely because of its exceptionally strong educational and talent ecosystem. The city offers comprehensive education in both information technology and electrical engineering, ranging from vocational qualifications to advanced university degrees. Educational institutions such as Gradia Vocational College, JAMK University of Applied Sciences and the University of Jyväskylä provide excellent opportunities for long-term talent development and collaboration with academia.
“We are not simply looking for individual recruits. Our goal is to build a long-term talent pipeline that supports professional growth from students to experienced specialists. Jyväskylä’s educational offering makes it an excellent location for us to establish a future centre of expertise,” says Moncada.
Norelco’s growth is being driven by electrification, renewable energy investments, data centres, the hydrogen economy, electric mobility and the development of critical infrastructure. At the same time, the modernisation of power networks and increasing automation are creating a growing demand for intelligent electrical distribution solutions, software and lifecycle services.
Norelco is responding to these developments by integrating electrical design, manufacturing, software development, automation and maintenance into a single service offering that covers the entire lifecycle of electrical distribution systems. The new engineering design and software development unit in Jyväskylä further strengthens this capability and supports the Group’s growth both in Finland and internationally.
