6.6.2025 Norelco Awarded Three New ISO Certificates – A Strong Foundation for Responsible Business
Norelco’s long-term efforts in operational development were recognised in spring 2025 when the company was awarded three international certificates: ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety management), and ISO 14001 (environmental management). The certification was carried out by the internationally respected Bureau Veritas.
The certification process, which began in October 2024, progressed smoothly: the official audit was conducted in January 2025, and the certificates were granted in April. “An audit conducted by an external party demonstrates to our customers and stakeholders that we meet the standards related to product quality, environmental responsibility, and employee well-being,” says Simo Pylkkänen, Norelco’s Chief Operating Officer.
Today, certificates are an essential part of business and often a prerequisite for participating in tenders and becoming a supplier partner. However, Pylkkänen emphasises that at Norelco, certificates are not seen as obligations but as opportunities to improve. “The certificates provide a framework for developing Norelco’s management systems. We define the actions ourselves and are accountable to ourselves. Through internal audits, we ensure our systems function and evolve.”
ISO 9001 – The Backbone of Management Systems
At Norelco, building a quality management system is a continuance of earlier work. Pylkkänen, who began as COO just over a year ago, praises the company for already operating in line with the customer-focused requirements of ISO 9001. “The company’s success is based on customer satisfaction, which in turn relies on an effective management system. The ISO 9001 standard gives us an internal concept aimed at achieving maximum customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.”
Pylkkänen describes ISO 9001 as the umbrella under which the other certificates fall. “ISO 9001 provides the structure and direction for other management systems as well.”
Occupational Safety and Work Ability Go Hand in Hand
Norelco has always recognised the importance of occupational safety. According to Pylkkänen, ISO 45001 brings more systematic practices to the company’s health and safety management. “The certificate is about preventing workplace accidents and near misses, as well as maintaining employees’ work ability. Caring for work ability is also about prevention – both mind and body must be in good shape for safety to be realised. That’s what we invest in,” Pylkkänen explains.
He adds that ISO 45001 offers concrete tools for identifying and managing safety-related risks. “We use the standard comprehensively to promote safety in all its aspects. We aim to minimise risks or maximise opportunities.”
Minimising Environmental Impact with Targeted Actions
With the ISO 14001 environmental certificate, Norelco is more committed than ever to the values of sustainable development. “Our operations don’t have significant environmental impacts, but the audit identified areas where we can improve our responsibility. In our case, these relate to electricity consumption and the use of metals and components.”
Pylkkänen notes that the certificate obliges the company to inform customers and stakeholders about its environmental efforts. “Large industrial and public sector clients also want to know how EU and national environmental legislation is implemented in our operations. Starting next year, we will begin producing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which detail the environmental impact of our products throughout their life cycle.”
A Shared Responsibility Across the Organisation
Pylkkänen says the ISO certificates commit the entire organisation – from top management to individual employees – to making development work part of everyday operations. “Responsibility for implementing the certificates cannot be delegated – it always lies with the organisation.”
He warmly thanks the staff involved in the certification process, which included representatives from all departments and employee groups. “Creating quality systems is a demanding process and requires a lot from the entire organisation. Everyone did a great job – a big thank you for that.”
